This upper-class Black family constantly delved into what it meant to be Black in the modern United States, exploring all the trials and tribulations that went with that. In fact, Black-ish didn't really get rolling until she made her debut.įor eight seasons, Black-ish focused on the Johnson family. While each and every character contributed to the success of the series in their own ways, it's hard to argue against how integral Ruby was to the narrative. These were people who were not afraid to speak extremely hard truths about life, particularly when it came to being Black in the United States. A show like Black-ish was built on a strong foundation of bold stories and even bolder characters.
